About Black Canyon
Black Canyon Trout farm was started by the Kimball family in the mid 70’s. The founder, George Kimball was on a duck hunting trip up the bear river through the black canyon when he noticed the large amount of spring water entering the river from the rocky basalt canyon. After some exploration he determined he could harness this water for raising fish in a young, but growing commercial aquaculture industry.
The land was purchased, massive basalt boulders were blasted and thousands of tons of rock and dirt were moved to build access roads, ponds, hatch houses and raceways in the steep rugged canyon. The Kimballs successfully grew the farm for the next 40 yrs selling live trout and eggs.
In 2015 George decided to sell the farm to enjoy retirement, at this time Travis Krebs and Stephen Chugg formed a partnership and purchased the farm. Today Black Canyon Trout Farm operates three facilities along the canyon. We work hard to produce the finest disease-free trout anywhere and provide unmatched service to our customers.
